Box Score Worcester, Mass. (October 26) -- Behind a pair of goals from sophomore Taylor Chase (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional), the Assumption College field hockey team pulled out a 4-2 victory over visiting Franklin Pierce on Saturday afternoon at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
Assumption took the 1-0 lead in the first period as freshman Meghan Sullivan (Worcester, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) tallied her team-leading eighth goal of the season off a team-high seventh assist from sophomore Kiley Colucci (Gloucester, R.I./St. Mary Academy) with 13 minutes left in the half. In the period, Assumption held a commanding 9-3 edge in shots and had seven penalty corner opportunities.
The Hounds seemingly put the game out of reach in the opening minutes of the second half as Chase scored a pair of goals to extend the lead out to 3-0 at the 50:44 mark. The Ravens offense roared to life though in the following moments as Franklin Pierce tallied a pair of goals in a span of just 47 seconds to cut the lead down to 3-2. Getting the visitors on the board first was an unassisted goal from Jessica Rogers, followed by a Chelsey Burnell goal off a pass from Shannon O'Leary.
Assumption put the game away in the final seconds though as junior Paige Anderson (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) scored with just six seconds remaining to account for the 4-2 final. The goal was her sixth of the season as the Hounds outshot the Ravens by a 17-8 margin overall for the game.
Senior Heather Philbrick (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) made two saves for the win, while Erin Wood had six saves for Franklin Pierce in the loss.
With the win, Assumption improves to 6-10 overall and 2-6 in the Northeast-10, while Franklin Pierce drops to 2-13 overall and 1-8 in league action.
