Box Score Rindge, N.H. (September 6) -- Just minutes from a shootout, the Assumption College field hockey team dropped a 2-1 double-overtime victory to Franklin Pierce University on Thursday night in non-conference field hockey action. Franklin Pierce's Courtney Kelly scored late in the second overtime to wrap up the win for the Ravens, their second straight victory.
After a scoreless first half, the Ravens got on the board at the 53:52 mark as Megan Bird tallied her first goal of the season for the 1-0 lead. The Hounds answered at 65:40 as sophomore Paige Anderson (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) tied the game at 1-1. Anderson scored her fourth goal of the season on a diving backhander as she has now scored in all four contests this year.
The game stayed that way until the waning minutes of the second overtime before Kelly scored with 2:45 left for the game winner, which was her first goal of the year.
Lauren Neilan (Mendon, Mass./Nipmuc Regional) turned aside eight shots in the loss, while Sarah Cote made eight saves in the win.
Assumption falls to 0-4 on the season and is back in action on Saturday afternoon as the Hounds host Adelphi University at 1 p.m. at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
