Manchester, N.H. (March 21) -- The Assumption College women's lacrosse team lost to Saint Anselm College, 19-12, on Saturday afternoon despite a game-high seven goals from freshmanAmy McNeil (Orange, Conn./Amity).
Saint Anselm got on the board first just 1:34 in when Carrie Brophy to make it 1-0, but McNeil tied the game 46 seconds later before the Hawks scored four straight to take a 5-1 lead.
McNeil scored four of her seven goals in the first half, but the Greyhounds trailed 12-8 going into the break.
The Greyhounds played even in the second half, but could not cut into the lead in the 19-12 final.
Junior goalkeeper Michelle Monahan (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) stopped eight shots in the game, while Katherine Amato made saves, including 11 in the second half.
Saint Anselm outshot Assumption, 36-33, including 22-15 in the opening half. The Hawks were 2-for-5 on free-position chances, while the Greyhounds were 2-for-9.
The Greyhounds return to action on Monday, April 2, as the team travels to Saint Michael's to take on the Purple Knights. The game will begin at 4 p.m.
