Assumption 16, Saint Anselm 13
Worcester, Mass. -- The Assumption Woman's Lacrosse team picked up its first conference win of the season on Saturday, defeating the Hawks of Saint Anselm 16-13 at the Multi-Sport Stadium on the Assumption campus.
Sophomore attacker Michelle Santos (Holliston, MA/Holliston) scored five goals for the Greyhounds, while collecting three ground balls. Freshman midfielder Kathyrn Beall (Shrewsbury, MA/Shrewsbury) had three goals. Freshman midfielder Nancy McAdam (Portland, ME/Portland) had a goal and two assists. Freshman goalkeeper Michelle Monahan (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) had 11 saves.
Junior attacker Meghan Smith (Pittsford, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) led the Hawks with four goals.
After the game opened with two quick goals by the Hawks, Assumption would go on a 10-2 run throughout the rest of the first half, going into halftime with a 10-4 advantage. The Hawks came out on fire in the second period, closing to within a single goal with 15:57 left to play at 12-11. The Greyhounds would not be denied, however, as they responded with three straight goals and Saint Anselm would not threaten again.
Assumption is now 3-4 with a 1-4 record in the Northeast-10 while Saint Anselm falls to 1-5 with a 1-3 conference record. Assumption plays next this Wednesday as they head to Southern Connecticut.
